| - Good simple flaky pastry place!
This cute bakery is easy for down town commuters to grab something to and from the office. My first thought for any pastry place is, how good and fresh could this taste at the end of the day. I was happily surprised and that's saying a lot!
The appearance looks just ok but the texture, lightness, flavour and filling makes up for the simple aesthetics.
The plain croissant is my bar setter for any pastry place. This one passed and exceeded a good standard croissant, buttery, flaky, had a dense outer crust with chewy inside like in Paris, except with the Dutch influence.
The Viking Slice: not exciting for Instagram and also kind of dry looking, BUT WAIT, it's pretty darn good! The chocolate glaze on top is simple like at a donut store(i.e. Boston cream donut glaze) but needed as this adds the extra sweetness to the marzipan filling inside amongst flaky buttery layers. It is not dry at all and very light despite its looks, I really enjoyed eating away at the edges as they were very tasty.
The names of the pastry are all Danish inspired so I can't remember the names of the box I sampled. But most of the treats have the same similar flaky layers, filled similar with an almond paste and graced with a touch of icing or chocolate glaze. The box for take out is strange as the hole isn't covered with a plastic so always ask for a bag of you're carrying it far.
This place is great, nothing too fancy just really good and true pastries.
