  • After a disappointing dinner, my sister and I wanted to get dessert to make ourselves feel better. Yes, you read that right, and yes, it was a mistake, as it always is when you try to self-medicate with sweets. Anyways, we headed to Chocolats Favoris because of the raving Yelp reviews. There was already a long queue so we felt extra validated that we found a cool spot. Inside, a big sign as well as some looseleaf laminated menus helped us decide what we wanted. Unfortunately the menu was confusing and, dare I say, a little deceptive? I wanted to get the Mochacchino and my sister wanted the toppings of the Crunch Hazelnut except with dark chocolate soft serve instead. Apparently that's not a thing? Either your soft serve is going to be plain (no toppings) or it gets crazy--- Kooky, they call it. I also normally order the smallest size, but the sample bebe size both in the menus and in the 3D demo version looked like it was for ants. So, against my better judgment I opted for the mini (more on this later). They ended up ringing us up for two mini Crunch Hazelnuts instead, both with vanilla soft serve inside. Before I had time to audit my receipt, they had already hurried us along (with a smile, of course, 'cuz this is Canada). Our order came out quickly but was not what I wanted. First of all, I wanted the Mochaccino! Second of all, it was not "mini," it was freaking huge! I'm not one to complain about getting extra portions, but since it was also freaking expensive, I was feeling salty. The mini was so big that each bite became less and less pleasurable until I couldn't stand it anymore and had to toss out the last 5 bites. And I swear I wasn't the only one! Later, I saw a guy in the mall atrium with his half eaten "mini" cone, reluctantly biting into the soft serve looking downright depressed. God forbid you order the large, you'd still be licking that soft serve right into the next year like some ice cream martyr. I guess the moral of the story is, don't eat ice cream when you're sad, come to Chocolats Favoris if you must, get yourself together before you order, and GET THE BEBE SIZE!!
