  • I was sadly disappointed in this expo. On paper it sounded great: an indoor event with lots of vendors in the large West World building. Since temperatures are getting too hot to host events outside, the indoor location sounded perfect. I ordered tickets ahead of time online, $6 per person. Otherwise it would have been $10 at the door. Pupper parents, PLEASE remember that the asphalt in this weather is really hot. To get an idea of how hot the surface your dog is stepping on, just put your hand on the sidewalk and imagine walking on that barefoot. I saw a lot of dog owners here during the hottest part of the day (High of 93 today) that didn't have any protective gear for their dogs walking from the parking lot to the event, and small dog owners weren't carrying their dogs either. Since the venue is so big, there was a bit of a walk from where we parked to the building so we carried our dogs. Compared to the other large pet expo event held during the winter (Also at West World), this one was not very impressive. There weren't as many vendors here, and of those vendors I'd say maybe 10-15% of them were non-pet related (Realtors, skin care, pest control, windows, life insurance). Why would I be interested in having a freshly exfoliated face, owning a new home or buying a life insurance policy if I'm at a pet expo? (Side note: if my dogs end up taking out a life insurance policy on me after today I'm going to be mighty suspicious) A lot of the vendors were rescues and there were many cute pets up for adoption, so I appreciate that aspect of this event. Some other vendors selling items included those offering toys, leashes, collars, food, and pillows made from an image of your pet (My favorite vendor of the expo, see https://aure.co/collections/custom-pet-pillows for more info). Services offered included boarding, agility training, and pet portraits. There was an area for free nail trims too but it involved placing your dog in some funky Cirque du Soleil-esque contraption so that your pup's legs are dangling in mid air. I figured my dogs wouldn't really go for such acrobatics. I suppose this event might have been worth it if one were bringing their dog to take part in some of the activities. There was a cool looking mobile wave pool for dogs that love swimming, a flyball tournament area, and a frisbee throwing area. In general I didn't mind paying the cheapish ticket price, but it didn't really feel worth the price of admission for me, especially since you will have to pay $5 for parking. We probably only spent 45 minutes here and that was circling every section in the area twice. Unless things change significantly for the better, I'll skip this pet expo in the future.
