  • My wife and I just started a new company and because it's in the luxury stationery business, presentation on all print material is even more important than most companies. We were especially tight on time as we were leaving for the National Stationery Show in NYC in less than 2 weeks. Not only did they do an amazing job in designing the cards, including sitting down with me to learn about our business to match the style to our luxury products, but they delivered on the timing and I was able to pick up the cards on Friday just before having to leave the following Monday for the show (we're local in Vegas so pickup was an option). At the show, we were blown away by the frequent compliments we received on the quality of the cards. Honestly, I was just hoping we'd be on par with business cards from vendors at the show. To see the look on so many faces and the glowing comments as they'd flip the card over several times and run their fingers across the surface as they admired it was amazing. It didn't even have all the design elements we wanted (suede and foil edges) because the added production needed for those features would have pushed delivery passed our deadline. I cannot take any credit on the design, I have had all the women in my life dress me since I was a baby, and outside of a few beatings in middle school (seriously mom, kids stopped wearing bow ties in school back in the 60s), it's served me well. Color coordination and style is my Achilles' Heel. The credit goes to my wife and the staff at DGI. It was a little hectic going back and forth with the designer to get the cards exactly how we wanted them prior to print, but much of that was due to the stressful time constraint we were under which is no fault to DGI. We had to wait on our graphic artist (different vendor) to finish our logo before we could even begin design of the business cards. If your business sells luxury products or services, you never want to rush marketing materials. And while other print companies offer faster turn around on ordered cards, they do not have the high-end features available from DGI. It's all about managing expectations, so give yourself some extra time as a cushion before you actually need the printed product. When it comes time for us to re-order, we won't be pressured for time and we'll add the elements we originally wanted. Tips: #1. Give yourself more time than you think you need. You can't rush quality. A couple extra days wait is nothing when you have a design that is perfect and will be saved on file so it can easily be reprinted in the future. #2. Be extremely specific in what you want. It will cut down on the back and forth with the designer and save you some time. Have everything in writing(email). The designer is trying to create a tangible product out of a vision you have in your head. Help him/her help you by being as clear as possible. #3. Ask questions. There are a lot of terms and features available like "spot UV" that I needed to get educated on. The staff was very helpful in answering my questions and showing samples so I can see first-hand what the features looked and felt like. I realize there is an added advantage being in the same city, but I'm sure you can google and youtube these things to get a good idea what they are.
