| - We had visited this place over a year ago and it was good...not great as far as BBQ goes, but good and a decent atmosphere and always busy. It used to be impossible to get a table. The last two times we went at 7:00 PM on a Saturday night and the place wasn't even half full both times, and this most recent visit solidified why. I'll preface with we had a Groupon (often, but not always, a sign that a restaurant's business is starting to flounder and they might be gone soon, but what the heck, it was a cheap deal, and they're normally expensive). The service started fine and we quickly got drinks. We sat down at 7:15, ordered by 7:30 and then waited...for 45 minutes for chicken and sides (there were only two of us). Tables that had been seated well after we ordered got their food before us, while we continued to wait with no apologies whatsoever from the waitress. When the food finally came, we asked about the wait and, rather than a simple apology for the time, we got excuses about how slammed they were (um, if that's slammed, less than half full, I hope your restaurant actually never gets busy) and then said sometimes the cooks accidentally cook the checks out of order. We said usually a manager would at least stop by to check and apologize. She sent him over, and he came up to us and said "Can I get you guys any hot sauce or anything?" Really? Hot sauce? We had a Groupon so we clearly weren't looking for anything to be taken off of our check as it was already paid for, but just an acknowledgement of the excessive wait time would have done wonders to show we were valued as customers. This manager clearly couldn't care less if we ever came back or not, so we won't.
The food gets a 2.5 for me...not awful, but VERY one-note (poutine literally just tastes like smoke, might mac tastes just like wasabi, etc....apparently balance is a foreign concept), but the complete lack of regard for us as customers is something that turns people off to a place. I won't be surprised if this one doesn't stick around much longer. I don't know what changed in the past year and a half, but it was for the worse.
