| - Located just past the supermarket and Jtown By The Sea, Sasaki is a little hidden away but once you find it, you'll make sure you drop by everytime you visit Jtown. Sasaki is best known for their daifuku - probably the best one in the city - but also sells macarons and adorable cookies as well.
Everything made here is done with the utmost care and the results are spectacular. Each bite is like biting into a little pillow of happiness. The daifuku are made fresh daily with a extremely soft skin and just the right amount of chewiness. The inside is filled with a variety of flavours ranging from Sakura, Strawberry, Houjicha, Sesame, Matcha, Cream, Mango, Coffee and Chestnut. The flavours were pronounced but not too sweet and the fruit daifuku have REAL pieces of fruit in the cream filling.
My favourites are the Coffee and Mango.
When I ate the mango, there was an explosion of sweet mango flavour. You can actually see and taste the fresh fruit that is puréed into the filling so that the natural flavour is present and yet it remains extremely creamy without any chunks. I didn't think I could like anything more than the mango.... Until I bit into the coffee. The flavour in the mochi is phenomenally aromatic and reminds me of Häagen-Dazs coffee ice-cream.
At $2.50 each, it can add up since they're pretty addictive. But I think it's worth every penny. It's also best to come early because many of the flavours sell out early in the day.
