In the northeast corner of Markham, the number of authentic Asian restaurants gets a bit slim. From the outside, TAO Canteen looks like all the other chain restaurants in a strip mall. But inside it diverges into a real Chinese restaurant, complete with photocopies menu, typos and all.
I ordered a Seafood Fried Rice for a quick lunch. The dish came out quickly. The biggest risk is that the kitchen uses questionable seafood, but this had clearly indentifiable chunks of fresh seafood, cooked to a perfect tenderness. This was a fried rice that had a real home cooked character to it.
A long look through the menu convinced me that I need to come back. Soon!
