| - I'm an avid climber in Colorado where every single gym I have attended has met my expectations. This gym was my first go at climbing in AZ during a brief visit. I was so incredibly surprised by the blatant display of carelessness shown by the staff and the obvious lack of care shown towards their facility.
First, I must say that the staff was definitely friendly, and if you're looking for a gym with completely relaxed staff that literally don't care what you do there, this might be just the place for you- that is, if you can stand the pretentious climbers.
Other than that, the routes were set very poorly, to the point where certain moves on a 5.7 route were obviously 5.9 skill level. Climbing ratings should always be that of the hardest move on the route- a super easy route with one 5.11 move should be rated 5.11. Let's not send beginners on a 5.7 route that will discourage them from climbing again.
The holds were incredibly dirty, as it is obvious they are not cleaned- you'll see from other negative reviews on here that the holds are slippery and dirty. Hate to say that's definitely not safe. Seriously- look at the pictures of the facility. The darkening you see at the top of the holds are caused by so many people using them as footholds that their shoes have greased them up.
Add on the fact that kids were swinging on the ropes across the gym- WITH staff assistance, and there were people literally laying down in the middle of the rock gym for no reason- this was literally the worst climbing gym I have ever been to and probably will ever go to. Edit response to Owner: Hi, the staff were pushing the kids on the top rope like they were on a swing, and the individuals laying down in the middle of the gym were seen by staff but not asked to sit on the sidelines. I felt that this was negligence and breaking your rules as set forward in the informational video. Also, if all of your setters are actually level 5 certified USA Climbing setters, that should be mentioned on your website as that is something to brag about. I also don't think having the hardest routes is something to brag about, as it certainly made my guest feel inadequate and discouraged about climbing today. Additionally, if you really run your holds through the dishwasher, maybe it's just time you traded them out. My visit was too short to revisit but I'm hopeful that others will not share my experience in the future.
