| - Truffle's is a well known hangout for the gay community in the area. The staff is mostly gay, and many of the patrons are as well. I used to love coming here for an iced coffee after going tanning, jogging at Edgewater park, or visiting friends in the neighborhood.
I really can't stand it now.
Forget sitting outside to enjoy your coffee and the nice weather. Why? Lovely low income/section 8 housing has INVADED the entire building that Truffles is located in. You'll spend the majority of your time on the patio telling people that "No I can not help you with bus fair, a cigarette, your crack problem.."etc. Not to mention the disgustingly trashy conversations I hear take place just feet from the patio because of the residents. I know it can't be helped by Truffle's, but unfortunately it factors in.
Also, a lot of time's I find the staff to be rude. Not always, but a large majority of the time the person working seems more anxious to get back outside to gossip and chain smoke then serve me my coffee or pastry.
Sometime's the pastry is good and sometimes it's so God awful I'd like to ask for my money back. I have had great cookies, scones, and of course truffles. I've also had horribly dry caked, cookies that were so dry and stale tasting that they obviously were days old, and countless other let downs.
The coffee isn't anything to write home about. Sometime's it can taste sour or burnt. Half the time they are out of lids, straws, or napkins. The milk and half and half is usually warm, empty, or there is barely enough to meet me needs.
I do still bop in here from time to time, but I only ever get an iced coffee. Just one, and always to go. Though generally I find myself at the Starbucks down the street paying a few dollars more, but getting everything that Truffle's fails miserably at providing it's customers.
