  • I visited Top Tier Cakes on a whim because I didn't have the time to drive to my usual bakery. I was looking for an assortment of goods (like cupcakes, cookies, etc,) and although I came in 45 mins before close they still had a good selection. I purchased a red velvet cupcake, a toasted coconut cupcake, an apple cinnamon scone, a German chocolate brownie, and a chocolate chip cookie. Let's start with the good. The brownie and coconut cupcake were both delicious. The brownie was very fudgey and had big chunks of chocolate in the brownie itself. I was pleasantly surprised at the texture of the brownie, and the coconut pecan frosting was nice as well. The toasted coconut cupcake was really surprisingly good and I was so happy I got it. The cupcake had a nice flavor and the frosting was incredibly light. I would absolutely buy both of these items again! The apple cinnamon scone was enjoyable. It had a nice texture and wasn't overly sweet. It tasted really delicious with coffee. I would order it again, but I would also be interested in trying some other flavors when available. Now for the "meh." The chocolate chip cookie was a bit of a disappointment. I'm a chocolate chip cookie snob and can tell just by looking at it if I'm going to like it or not. I knew I wouldn't love this cookie but purchased it anyway just to see. It was very sweet and floury, soft on the inside, and more crisp around the edges. I prefer chocolate chip cookies to be more buttery, salty, and chewy around the edges. It wasn't nasty, but if you prefer chewy buttery cookies like me, then pass on this one. The red velvet cupcake was not bad, but it was just not that memorable. My sister got married this year and had the most amazing red velvet cake and cupcakes at her wedding, and unfortunately I think it's ruined all other red velvet cakes for me, lol. This cupcake was not bad at all, but it just wasn't so good that I would want it again. The gentleman working when I went into the shop was very nice and helpful. The shop itself was very clean and well decorated, and I really liked the feel inside. They had a wide assortment available when I stopped by, including 2 kinds of brownies, 5 or 6 types of cupcakes, peanut butter brookies (brownie/cookies), lemon meringue, key lime, and pumpkin tarts, macarons, 2 kinds of cookies, scones, danish, and their signature pecan diamonds. They also sold coffee and bottled water which was nice. From the menu on the wall they seem to offer a lot of different cakes, and if I were ordering a special cake for an event I would definitely do a cake testing here. Overall I really liked this place. It's kind of hidden in the shopping center off of Detroit, so I feel like it gets overlooked a lot. (I've lived right down the street for over a year, and this was my first time stopping in.) They have a good selection, quality treats, nice staff, and it was a good experience for me. I would definitely go here again and recommend checking it out!
