| - Update. Called to check for a plant. The new owner is a bit sharp and unknowledgeable. Sandy, the expert who worked there forever, has gone. Will update again once I've been there for plants.
I've been coming here for more than 10 years and always had a great experience. It's a little more pricy than some other nurseries, but the plant quality is really high. If you don't know about plants, one looks like another - but Summerhill Nursery sells healthy, robust plants. And unlike other reviewers, all I've ever seen is well-cared-for, thriving plants. I've asked for plants that they don't have, and I've been told it's hard to get them, but they'll try. Phone first!
Excellent service. It's crazy busy on weekends in the spring, can be a bit of a wait to pay, and the staff is mostly students who don't know much - but they will send you to someone who knows their stuff if you're asking horticultural questions. And also, the advice is honest - I've been told not to get some plants because they won't survive in my garden.
And no, I don't live in Rosedale (Kensington Market), and I'm not rich, and I don't have a big garden (little strip, 10 x 6, and some big planters).
If you want quality and a lot of choice, and good advice based on your garden, this is the place to go.
