  • This is a tough review, one of the few times where service severely negatively impacted the rating. We ordered a cake for our co-worker on a Thursday for the following Tuesday. We wanted to get a customized cake and considered a few different bakeries in Charlotte. Having heard good recommendations about Suarez, we decided to place an order. We requested a cake based on a Kitchen Sink Cookie. We were told that it would be the cake cost and $10 for a design fee. Sure, from the designs on the website, it seemed worth while. We placed an order but asked to upgrade the cake from a 6 inch to an 8 inch, and was then told it was an additional $5 for a design fee. One would think that for 2 inches, Suarez had sufficient revenue to cover some additional design, basically adding some cookies to the cake? But whatever, it was for a birthday and we put in a request. It ended up being $67 for an 8 inch cake, but it would probably be amazing, right? So, Tuesday, we had scheduled to pick up the cake at 11 am when we ordered. We show up at the store at 11:15 and after some searching, were told the cake wasn't made. Ok? How does that work, I personally just don't understand. So we agreed to get a cake delivered to us at 2 pm in the afternoon to uptown, seeing as we wasted almost an hour going to Suarez to pick up the cake. 2 pm, cake arrives. Looks clean and good, tastes really good, awesome... but for $67, the hassle of not having the cake when ordered and the $15 decoration fee, I am not sure we really got our money worth. To put it into perspective, you can get a Kitchen Sink Cookie at Suarez for $1.85, we could've gotten 8 cookies instead of the "decoration" on the cake. Given the timing, the cake literally looked like they chopped up half a cookie and sprinkled some other stuff on a cake... End result of the visit, good food, poor service, and overpriced "customization" for what was done. We appreciated the delivery, but still left feeling a bit underwhelmed at the end of the day.
