If top chef were to have a quick fire challenge on making ice cream, it would sort of look like the set up at cool N2. There is a row of kitchenaid standmixers churning ice cream as the associate poured liquid nitrogen. The concept is neat, but the final product leaves me wanting more.
The large size costs about $8, and for $8 i expected whipping cream to be used. The ice cream lacks the silkiness and sweetness of ice cream made with 35% whipping cream. It tastes more like a gelato (puree, sugar, and milk).
The green tea ice cream was bitter and even the syringe of "condensed milk" couldn't really fix it. (Note it isn't actually condensed milk either because condensed milk is more viscous)
The milk flavor of the mango popice was bland, but the fresh mangos helped make it tastier.
They also offer cheetos that are flash frozen which seems interesting.
I don't regret trying cool N2, but i rather take my money to other specialty ice-cream stores.
