  • This was the 2nd time we hiked this trail, but the first time we went into the canyon. The first time was a couple years ago. My eldest was dragging his feet and it made us lazy to keep going on. Plus, I was pregnant in the crappy stage. Thought the fresh air would have made me feel better, but all I wanted to do was curl against the tree and puke. Needless to say, we were all having morning sickness. Lol. Fast forward...we have returned! All children in tow and ready to finish this thing! It was such a beautiful day out and the hike didn't disapppint. Refreshing, calming, and the boys LOVED it! Norm K did not lie when he said it's 4 miles roundtrip. Not much of an incline, however, there were some parts where you had to work those knees. Unless, it was just me and my almost 5 foot stature. Haha! It could feel boring depending on your mood, but once you get to the canyon...adventure awaits! The temperature drops even more so in there and the children immediately felt reenergized. My 7 year old was taking the lead, climbing boulders, climbing on the canyon walls, running way ahead, and loving it! Once you get to the end, and you'll know for sure once you've gotten to the end...some may feel disappointed because perhaps they were expecting water. However, if you're hiking in the summer...of course you won't find any water especially as summer comes to an end. We still enjoyed it, there's this chute where I assume the water runs through it like a water fall. The kids climbed it and was able to slide down it so that made it fun. Be careful because the boulders are slippery even though there isn't water, so watch your stepping! It definitely is a kid friendly hike. Don't bring the strollers, it's not that kind of hike. If you have the kids, bring lots to drink and snacks. Lots of shade along the way to stop and rest if need be. We saw squirrels, butterflies, and even a blue tail skink that another family we chatted with caught on the way back down. That was a nice treat for the kids! My 7 year old asked to do this hike again, and this is a hike he didn't need to ask to do again because we certainly will be back.at the entrance we noticed walking sticks left behind perhaps for the next person. We took it, and when we were back down...we placed it back for the next person! Highly recommend! We look forward to seeing this hike when there's snow and even in the spring as the snow melts to see water cascade down the canyon. Enjoy!
