  • I cannot say enough about the Vets. More over, my dogs are very comfortable with them and the place. This speaks for itself. I am the kind of individual who researches 'forever' before making a final decision in anything. Prior to our decision to bring home any canine family members, I researched the vets in our area, the resources such as parks, dog community groups and studied the research on vaccination and medication protocol for dogs in general; I am a health care professional with humans so the research on protocols is expected from someone like myself. My husband, in general, doesn't like going to any doctor or vet clinic. So when we BOTH say that the reviews are 'spot on' when it comes to 'Dr. Oscar', Dr. Darcy, and Kaitland who is always genuine, pleasant and sincere, it is not said so easily. Actually, it speaks volumes. The VETS: Our vet is Dr. Oscar but we had a chance to also consult, not purposely, with Dr. Darcy and she is just as kind. You can see wholeheartedly that they both LOVE animals. On a human level, it is easy to speak to them and ask them detailed questions. Because of all the research and reading I have done, I tend to bombard Dr. Oscar with so many questions, but he is patient and takes the time to answer all of them. If they are not sure, they will tell you and look into it; they do not have the arrogance that some other vets have. I completely respect this and appreciate this!! This shows their true authenticity and honesty to their profession, to your pet family member and to you. I also appreciate that Dr. Oscar does not push any type of food or drugs and instead discusses pros, cons or what he knows or does not know. For instance, we are comfortable using one type of Heartworm medication. He carries another brand. But he will ensure it is ordered for us. For food, both he and Dr. Darcy ask 'what do you feed' your pet. In our home, we have a daily schedule which includes high end kibble and whole foods (separate times) with vitamins etc. They support our system as they can see, first hand, that it benefits our dogs. The STAFF: They are all 'nice' and professional, but the one team member I have always found to be 'pleasant' and 'genuine' is Kaitland. Her personality matches that of the Vets she works with. The LOCATION: The location is easily accessible by TTC; parking can be more challenging. If you take the TTC, although the building is on Richmond and Sherbourne, the doors to the clinic are actually closer to Queen and Sherbourne. So the Queen streetcar or Sherbourne bus from the station can take you straight there. There is sometimes parking on Britain street which is south of Queen, North of Richmond, West of Sherbourne. IF you have to wait when SAH are doing tests on your pet, you can walk to the Tim Horntons or other venues to wait with a cup of coffee. The PLACE: The place is simple, spacious and clean, right off the street. The examination Rooms reflect the same. The open reception area where you wait is simple and comfortable; no frills. Easy floor for your pets to walk on and they can look out through the glass to the passerby The PRICES: Decent and fair; it is after all, Downtown Toronto. I had done my research and although they are not on the 'cheap' end, they are not on the outrageous end either. If you have more than one pet, there is a small discount (10% off 2nd consultation) which can greatly help as all costs can add up. You can openly ask them how much anything will cost before committing. They always discuss before hand so there are no surprises. Also, they do not take it personal if you get something done somewhere else i.e. a test or medication. The impression I received was an openness to learn what 'you' have learned from your visit somewhere else. It becomes a discussion of opinion and not one of ego. They understand that not everyone is a millionaire and will not push something if they know it would be unreasonable to your budget. The PROCESS: You can contact them by phone or by e-mail. In this day and age of hectic schedules, I appreciate this. I am a bit militant with my schedule and time because of the type of work I do. So most of everything I do is by e-mail or text and this option with SAH simplifies the process and keeps a trail for your records. The only downfall would be that sometimes e-mails are missed, which is what happened most recently. The record of e-mails sent help in validating that you attempted contact without success. Also, they are open to sharing the file with you if needed. We needed to clarify some issues with the Pet Insurance carrier and SAH gladly provided a copy of the chart. OVERALL CONCLUSION: Aside from the typical administrative frustrations which can happen anywhere, I highly recommend the Sherbourne Animal Hospital and both Vets at the practice. I am sure if my 2 little Chihuahuas, could speak human languages, they would say the same.
