I understand this is a business and they have costs to cover, having said that, I had a tech come out today to inform me that my unit was low on refrigerant which I already knew. He said he did not recommend the repair which would consist of searching for and then repairing a leak in the system. From that point the "service call" turned into a sales call where I received two quotes on the replacement of my unit. For this I was still charged $49 dollars. When I asked the technician how much it would have been if I had requested a quote upfront, he said the "sales" call would have been free. Keep in mind, the diagnosis consisted of the technician feeling the coolant line with his hand on the non-working unit and then comparing that temperature he felt on my other unit which was working - this took maybe 1 minute. The rest of the 30 minutes was spent trying to sell me on a replacement. If your looking for a new unit this might be the company for you, just be sure to tell them that before they come out otherwise you will be charged.
