So here's the thing, I became a Hilton Honors member so I could pick out my room in advance. Well, they totally missed the mark on the floor map. It looked like my room was down the hall from the elevator but alas I am DIRECTLY across. I checked in an hour ago and am already dreading how loud it is in this spot. Do not trust the floor map!
This map issue is Hiltons fault, not the hotel itself, but it's an issue for those of us who care about such things. I asked to move rooms, the staff was super nice and tried to help me, but I worried the room on a lower floor would be equally loud for other reasons so I'm sticking it out.
Now on to the hotel itself: The building is gorgeous. I love old city architecture and this one is a gem.
The rooms are very modern and huge. Seriously huge. I was pleasantly surprised by the design choices, I love the finishings. Everything looks crisp and clean... Until you see the bathroom floor. It has a texture to it that is meant to keep people from falling, but it also makes it darned difficult to clean. It's pretty gritty and I can see all sorts of weird things stuck to it. I'll just put towels down on the bathroom floor to cover it up and move on with my stay.
Otherwise the room is great and the staff is delightful. For a Doubletree, I did have higher expectations for things like the bathroom floor cleanliness, so it's bumping my four star to a three.
