| - A number of vendors in the Distillery District pointed us to Soma - so you know it's good.
Only having been in once, and not being knowledgeable about chocolate tasting (which is akin to wine tasting etc.), not sure I'm the most qualified person to be writing a review - but hey, lack of knowledge has never stopped me from stating an opinion before, so here goes:
As with everything in the district, the space is lovely, though smaller. You can view where they make the chocolate, and where they make the treats made from the chocolate.
Looked at the chocolate - and felt a little overwhelmed. They list country of origin and percentage of chocolate. Luckily, they also have a nice little summary of what this means on each chocolate type. (Again - I'm reminded of being in a wine store... except I have half-a-clue in a wine store... no clue here.)
Ended up getting a dark chocolate bar with orange peel, and a milk chocolate that had extra cocoa in it, so it looked like a dark chocolate except it's not. Gave the milk chocolate away, so can't comment - but the dark chocolate was delicious - flavourful, rich and yummy.
It's a shame I can't go in there week after week and try every piece of chocolate they have - but if you can, do so.
Would I recommend: Yes. You may want to do some cursory reading on chocolate before you go.
Would I return: If I go back to the district, will make a point of going back to Soma too.
