| - I was very pleasantly surprised by Maggie's Farm! When I walked in the door (which is simply marked and on the side of a warehouse in a really random area) I didn't really know what to expect. So it was really cool to see a bar with additional booth seating, and a clear view to the distillery behind the bar area.
The drink list is comprehensive; they have a nice selection of rum cocktails and also beer cocktails, plus beer, wine and cider. And, of course, you can also opt for a tasting. My husband and I went there expecting to have a drink or two, but the drinks were so good we ended up making an afternoon of it.
I started with the Smooth Sailing, their version of a Dark and Stormy. This was surprisingly smooth and I instantly knew I'd want to try other cocktails. I sipped my husband's Painkiller, which was awesome, but I was partial to the Harry Nilsson - a simple mix of white rum, coconut cream, fresh lime and soda. Somehow these ingredients combined to make a frothy, slightly-sweet/slightly-tart, absolutely delicious drink. I finished with the Cantaloupe Island, made with spiced rums, for a little something different. But that Harry Nilsson had my number!
My husband also did a tasting so of course I snagged a couple small sips of each rum. Everything, even the high-alcohol rums, was very smooth. There is an impressive array of medals on display for said spirits.
Maggie's was a great stop during our trip and I'll be looking out for more of their products in the Philly area for sure!
