| - Okay, so I am SO surprised that Italian restaurants can mess up spaghetti! We are in a "Let's try the local small business" mode as our new year resolution, so we found this little Italian family run restaurant near our house. We drive by all the time, and decided to try it tonight. They do have several signs out front that read "Family Style Dinning". Guess it doesn't bother them. Their parking lot is always full when we drove by, so we thought it would be terrific... NOT.
Being a family owned restaurant, I thought there would be a much friendlier staff who was proud of their business...
When we entered, the host guy didn't even greet us, he just said, "2?"
We sat for 10 minutes before our drink order was taken. I was surprised that the menu said drinks were around $2 each with only 1 refill (not sure if they adhere to this, though).
When he did take our order, he didn't suggest adding a salad, or even starting with an appetizer. I ordered the Baked Spaghetti with meat sauce (it came out with marinara sauce) and M ordered a specialty calzone. My spaghetti was just meh. It was kind of a square of spaghetti in a greasy tomato sauce. I asked the waitress if I could get a side of meat sauce because that is how I ordered it (twice, actually, the guy came out 20 minutes after we ordered to ask me what I ordered). She eyeballed my plate like I was lying. When the meat sauce came out, it smelled funny, and tasted old. The calzone was okay.
When the waiter took my plate, he did ask if I wanted something different, I told him no, that I just didn't care for the dish. He didn't ask what I didn't like so that the kitchen could take it into consideration or even out of concern. Well, I was charged $12.25 for it anyway. Most places would have taken it off the bill, or at least discounted it. Sorry, but we won't be back.
