How can you not give Mother Nature 5 stars?
The whole place is beautiful. It is amazing that such colors and formations occur naturally as a result of geological events and weather. The "desert meets mountains" look has always been a favorite since I grew up in Phoenix.
There is scenic loop that does cost about $7 to access - but it is the main road to get to the numerous different trails that the park offers. And each trail has a different level to it, so you don't have to be a hardcore outdoorsy type to enjoy it. We stopped and hiked a couple of different trails - and each had unique features. Some have flat square rocks left over from the quarry days, and other trails had the finest sand I have ever seen (so fine, it made it into my socks!
While we didn't get to see any wildlife, there are plenty of rumors about mountain sheep, tortoises and wild burros. And waterfalls. I will definitely be coming back next time I am in town to try to catch a glimpse of something. :)
And as always, be prepared when you are out hiking. Dress in layers, bring plenty of sunscreen and lots of water. Don't forget to let someone know where you are going.
