| - Okay, this place is a cathedral of used, rare and new books. The used and rare selection is incredible, the floors are brightly polished wood, complete with homey touches--rugs, tables, wool knit pricey children's toys--and then all those books! Clean, bright, smelling nice or better yet, no smell at all! I really can't express my fascination and affection for this place. We walked in in the middle of a rain storm, and stayed for much longer than I (exhausted, stressed) ever intended. I even bought three books! I never buy more than one usually, but that day I found a 1937 copy of Babar and Zephir, Melissa Green's Squanicook Eclogues (trust me, rare and very good), and a galley of Rita Dove's Mother Love--a galley from a book that's been in print awhile, and the one I wanted?
RARE!
I mean, this is not your average quality shop. Well above. Room after room of prettiness. I'd be surprised if you make it out empty-handed. Check out the high high shelves and the sanctuary room they have in the back, filled with even harder to find books and prints! And a bindery! You should go, if you're in the vicinity and you want to shop local. You should go now. I want to go now but I live in another state :(
