| - So as I'm strolling up to work one morning, I see an injured mockingbird clearly in distress by the stairs. I whipped out my phone and immediately called the Las Vegas Animal Control, who told me UNLV fell under the jurisdiction of the county. Then I call Clark County Animal Control. They tell me they don't handle birds, that's Wildlife. I call Wildlife, and no one even answers!! I left a message and they still haven't even called me back.
By this time, 3 other animal lovers have gathered round. We decide the little bird should be taken to a vet. One gal recommends Sandy Hill Animal Clinic and calls ahead to let them know we're in route. Why Sandy Hills? Because this vet will take in stray injured animals and give them medical care if they can be saved. That's so admirable. I once called a local vet and asked if they would take in an injured bunny I found on the street. They said only if I was willing to pay for his medical expenses. GTFO. Veterinary hospitals that will heal animals because it's the right thing to do, and not because it's for profit, are rare establishments indeed.
I sped over to Sandy Hills while my co-worker sat in the passenger side holding the mockingbird (wrapped in tissue of course). When we walked in, a smiling vet technician greeted us and instantly received the bird, cooing. She proceeded back towards the office.
Thank you, Sandy Hills Animal Clinic, for taking in this little injured bird without hesitation!
