  • IF YOU HAVE A CAT WITH ANXIETY, MAYBE NOT THE BEST PLACE TO TAKE THEM. This was my experience, I took my cat to Gateway today for the first time. He's a high anxiety cat and I told the receptionist this when I registered. I waited outside, she did not advise me that they have a speaker outside & will call me when they were ready for him, but, they did and when I heard his name we went inside. There is a HUGE waiting area and there would be plenty of room to have dogs on one side and cats on the other, but it's mixed. Took him into the exam room which is one big room with both cats and dogs and no partitions. My cat had never even seen a dog or another cat before, so this was probably stressful to him. I was afraid if he got away he could have easily slipped out the door and then at just the right moment could have easily gotten outside and ran away. There are no safeguards in place and only 2 doors and your pet would be GONE. Dr. Abbey examined him after complaining to a co-worker openly about some issues going on the office, I heard everything, docs should remain professional at all times, I didn't need to hear about office politics etc., but this is just my opinion. The exam was okay but my cat soon grew angry and vicious, they handled him pretty well, but he jumped off the table and onto the floor and like I said I was fearful how easily he could have gotten out the door, or, even more easily could have gone over to another animal (cat or dog) and could have been bitten or he could have bitten them. The room is completely open and dogs and cats are mixed together. Dr. Abbey tells me at the end of the exam they do have private rooms, the receptionist should have made this known to me at the very beginning and I would have opted for a private room given how easily irritated my cat becomes. In summary, the care was okay but the setup leaves alot to be desired. If you have a cat like mine, ask for a private room right up front, I would have felt alot better if they would have let me know about this when I registered at the front desk. Probably won't be back, I prefer Big Creek Animals Hospital in Middleburg Hts., they seemed to know how to handle a difficult situation better.
