| - I love a Yelp Elite event and I was really excited about this one because I absolutely love sushi. I am super grateful that PAN invited us into their space and offered us samples of their menu, so I don't do this 2 star review lightly... But I'm a tell-it-like-it-is kind of girl, so I have to say that, "Meh, I've experienced better." is an apt description.
We arrived fully intending to try the samples and then order from the menu if we were still hungry, but instead we left after only 50 minutes and went down the street for dinner. Overall, PAN just seemed a little unprepared and unorganized. Ok, maybe a lot unprepared. The service and presentation were clumsy at best and I just felt like I was in the way rather than welcome and at ease. At the end of a long work day, we just didn't have the patience for it.
Here is what we did while we were there though. The first round of drinks wasn't fast, but wasn't slow either - about average for the beginning of an event. My boyfriend selected and ordered a beer before he realized that only the two featured cocktails were eligible for the drink tickets. After being advised, he decided to keep the beer since neither of the features were appealing to him. Although neither was all that appealing to me either, I decided to give them a shot. That's what the event is for, after all.
We took the first round of drinks and the two sushi samples that were available outside. I started with the dragon fruit cocktail; which was a little unbalanced and really too sweet for my taste. After finishing what we had and realizing that there wasn't going to be any service outside, we sidled up to the bar again for a second round. The lone bartender was now completely overwhelmed and it really showed. She served people completely at random and barely looked up long enough to assess the situation. She actually took my order for the sake cocktail three times, but then kept making it and giving it to others at the bar. After 20 minutes of this, I was unable to get her attention again and we finally just gave up and left.
We did sample the edamame hummus while waiting - that was the star of the event for me. That dish and the fact that PAN took the time to do an Elite event (however unorganized) would make me give it another try so that I could assess the place a little better. I do hope I can give it more stars on the next review.
