  • I have been following KEC on Facebook ever since it opened and have been waiting to finally get around to trying many of their desserts I finally made my way there. Walking in the shop is super cute. Larger than the outside and if you aren't paying attention would miss this spot-they need an awning with their name on it so you can't drive by. The service behind the counter was lovely and super kind. I had to try the oatmeal cream pie because I always see posts about it and they looked divine! I also grabbed their chocolate chip cookie sandwich with salted buttercream in between and 3 cupcakes. I asked which ones were artificially dyed (I could immediately tell) and she was able to tell me exactly what they were colored with. Happy to see that 4 out of the 6 had no artificial coloring-eeewww and my daughter is highly allergic so I was happy to be able to get her one. I went with strawberry vanilla, salted caramel and I believe vanilla wedding? Okay for the taste -the oatmeal cream pie was Delish and HUGE! It could be split in 4 servings. For me it was sweet but I am a very low sugar/no sugar clean eater so anything "American normal" is going to taste way too sweet. The cookie itself was very good but not as oatmealy as I would have expected. Now the chocolate chip cookie sandwich with salted caramel buttercream-holy baby lord-divine! Again too sweet for me but the cookie was amazing! I could have done with more salt to overcome the coying sweetness and I actually added finishing salt to it when I got home and it took it to another level! Maybe they should bump up the salt on this. Lastly the cupcakes. Oh sad sad cupcakes- I have had 3 of the best cupcakes in my life and they are in no order #1 cookie and a cupcake # Butter lane cupcakes NYC #3 DC cupcakes NYC. These cupcakes were not even on those levels. Unfortunately cc's are a hit or miss. These were one noted and just dull. The cake was soft but the frosting was just sugar-we couldn't even differentiate the flavor combo beciade it tastes like sugar cream on a cake. A really amazing cupcake has layers, the cake is beyond soft and fluffy and you can taste the pure ingredients and the frosting oh yeah this is where no matter how good the cake of you can't nail a frosting it doesn't matter in the end-cookie and a cupcake-nails it-those NYC shops nail it. KEC doesn't nail the cupcake. So will I go back-absolutely for that chocolate chip cookie sandwich and I would LOVE for them to just offer the cookie sans the buttercream! Oatmeal cookie the hubby loved and would eat again on a treat night and I would love o go and try the brownie (wasn't there when I went) and maybe a macron but I'm not a huge fan of them regardless. Didn't have any sugar cookies in the case at 1 pm when I went so was disappointed I couldn't try and I really want to know how long they keep cupcakes in case because my frosting had that "sitting out in the air for too long" texture that gets kinda hard and crisp on top-also not smooth and you can feel the sugar granules-my pet peeve w frosting-it should be smooth like silk. Overall some great sweet sweet treats I would stop in for if in the area or for an occasion and others that just aren't up to my standard.
