VIBE
Ah, The Reservoir Lounge. The place of some legendary late nights (especially in my very early twenties). How I miss thee. The crowd has kind of changed throughout the years (read: more people know about it) but I've changed too. And so it goes. This subterranean boogie woogie joint hasn't lost its casual charm. You can come in a suit; you can come in a dress; or you can wear a t-shirt and jeans. No-one discriminates here. But yes, there is a bit of a banker crowd. I did overhear the words "MBA" used in conversation. Word to the gents: no-one cares about your MBA. Sorry to break the news.
And PS there are quite a few men who come here alone. Creepy? Nice guys but I don't really want to talk about the Russian Military when "Fever" is on in the background, you know what I mean?
On Saturdays, you WILL line up to get in (even with the $10 cover charge). It's super packed in here.
THE GOODS
Anyways, on a weeknight, I would definitely peg this as a perfect second part to the end of a great date night. You can still have a conversation while the music is playing in the background. And do make sure you check out Tyler Yarema and his Rhythm on Tuesdays and/or Saturdays. These guys have been rocking it since 1999! (or before then).
There's also a little dance floor in the back. Charming. Drinks are reasonable for downtown and made with liquored love. My Gin and Tonic was $6.75.
OBLIGATORY CATCHY REMARK
A reservoir of fun. Weeknights may be more fun than weekends. If you're more hipster than banker, it's best to be in Parkdale. And if you're more vodka-lover than gin-lover, it's best to be next door at Pravda.
