  • I travel all over the country for business. I've been to most Whole Foods locations (and am extremely greatful that Whole Foods exists in relative "food deserts" to provide at least semi-healthy options whereever you go) Checking my mint.com, I see I've spent a whopping $10,599 the past year at Whole Foods locations for myself and my family. Whew! I must say, this is one of the best Whole Foods in the country, if you're interested in the healthiest food possible. Perhaps even better than the Austin mothership if you're a raw foodist, or at least incorporate a lot of raw into your diet. I met a super healthy female performer from Cirque Du Soleil here, so perhaps this Whole Foods has to work harder to provide healthy options in large part for Vegas' incredibly demanding performance arts community. My family switches between raw and paleo, depending on what's available in the local area -- but this store has SO MUCH RAW (really, it has to be seen to be believed!), we never delve too much into the more Paleo type options at this particular location. This Whole Foods really does have the largest selection of packaged raw foods I've seen in person. To beat it, you have to go mail order. If you want to see the power of raw food, btw, search youtube for Las Vegas local "Markus Rothkranz", and be prepared to have your socks blown off. He's so silly, but so right about so many things. A gleaming example of the power of raw. Anyway, this Whole Foods also has an enormous selection of raw, organic nuts. Some even pre-soaked for you (nuts must be soaked to remove phytates to actually become a healthy good), from amazing brands such as Essential Living. (for some reason, some of the organic bulk is marked conventional -- be aware that EVERYTHING from Essential Living is organic) The juice bar is also awesome, with warm, friendly people who don't mind ridiculous requests... like "please make me a gallon or two of juice for pickup within the next hour or two" They do it without complaint, for which I'm extremely grateful! Michael in the vitamin department is also amazing, bar none. He has a wonderful energy that's great to be around, friendly to kids, and a caring man. An all around good guy. He's also just as knowledgeable as most ND's I've seen. Really knows his stuff. He's one of the best Whole Foods employees I've met, ever. Better than the massively trained Pharmaca employees, too. One of Whole Food's best "human resources". They need to somehow acknowledge employees like this. (hopefully they already do!) The one thing they really do here, is more organic food options on their salad bar, similar to PCC in Washington state. I'm sure they'll be adding more with time. All in all, this is definitely a 5 star Whole Foods. Maybe 6 stars. The team responsible should be massively proud of themselves! It is on the complete opposite end of the spectrum of the Fort Apache/Summerlin Whole Foods. That store used to be a tiny gem, but it has gone down hill massively compared to a few years back. That store has much fewer healthy options and is actually dangerous to kids (the vitamin area lady, Beverly, struck and pushed my 3 year old there when he touched a toy -- an the night manager Dave did nothing about it! Completely worthless store!!), whereas this one is kid friendly and has much healthier food options. More human friendly overall, you could say. Also, NO TOYS at this store -- THANK GOD -- which helps children to focus on what they're there for: nutrition. Very few Whole Foods these days are toy free, which is a shame, because they're powerful triggers for little ones of a certain age. They just don't have enough grey matter to not to gaga over toys. Probably the most annoying temptation here are the chocolates in the back, but that's easily avoided (and there's raw options which are closer to nature). Other kids seemed calmer at this store, too, so the no toy policy here really works. I am certain that singles appreciate that as well. All Whole Foods should remove them, or at least sequester them to an area you can easily avoid. Makes for a much more pleasant shopping experience. UPDATE: I just went in tonight (10/13/14) About 10 minutes to close, I realize I stupidly forgot to order juice. Went up to Monica and Michelle, asked if it'd still be ok to order a juice or two. I felt bad for even asking, but they actually encouraged me! Ended up getting 4 juices, and 4 ounces of wheatgrass... and they were chipper and full of loving personality the whole way. In a place like Portland, you can pretty much forget about ordering juice even an hour to close. Massive kudos to Monica & Michelle!! They're mega kind, which is mega appreciated. Make you sure you tip these sweeties!
