  • Will strolling Ross Park Mall with my friend today we stumbled upon Tesla which I had read about in the newspapers. So we decided to stop in and find what it was all about. This happened to be opening day and they were giving away sweet treats to anyone who came in. On display was a $70,000 electric car with all the works you can imagine along with in the back a display of its frame. So I met with one of the representatives to learn more about this electronic wonder. We had a seat in the front so I asked if they have a dealership. I was told no. These cars are special ordered and the model I read about in the paper for $35,000 is a lesser grade model than this one. However, if I wished to take it on a test drive I could either schedule it with him now or go to their website to schedule. Under the hood there was literally nothing because he told us this car was virtually maintenance free. After all, this car is electric. You don't need oil changes, etc. Only washer fluid. I noticed that the rear view mirror was a lot smaller than you would find in your average car. He told me that below is to the right of the driver's side is a huge video dashboard that has so many options among which was a large rear view camera. It even notifies you if you are near a blind spot. it also has an autopilot which essentially recognizes what lane you are in and helps you to stay in it. When then went over navigation because like all electric vehicles this bad boy will need to be recharged. So we programmed a fake trip to NYC since we figured most people who can afford this car would buy one in Manhattan and there would be a lot of charging stations. It calculated us through the PA turnpike and showed us the stops we would make in order to charge the vehicle for about 15 minutes. I told the man that I preferred not to use the turnpike due tolls let alone construction. He told me that if I chose to drive to NY via I-80 I would be making a lot more stops because their recharging stations are out of the way.Well that sure limits my options doesn't it? The car also has all the frills you would find in a souped up version including a moon roof, heated seats etc, and so much more. The trunk has ample space but alas no spare tire. He told us that those tires were huge and all I would need to do is call AAA or someone if I got a flat. I know better that unless my car even has a donut spare there is no way you are going anywhere without a tow. So what if you really wanted to invest in one of these beauties? Well then we were told you can order it and have it specially built to your specifications and you would get it in about 12 weeks. I really couldn't understand his answer when it came to servicing the vehicle because the closest headquarters to us is in Cleveland, Ohio. Well I never thought of a mall holding such a business. I'm sure there's someone out there who will buy one of these cars but certainly not my cup of tea. It's worth a look anyway
