| - MY wife and I had dinner at Bernard's last night. It has been a while so we tried new items. It is one of our favorite local spots when we want a special dinner. We were not disappointed.
The warm crusty sliced baguette they serve up front was nice and fresh. The butter tasted sweeter than most so I'm not sure what brand they use, but it was very good.
My wife had French Onion Soup then the "Braised Chicken Mille Feuille, with mushrooms, garlic and artichokes topped with puff pastry and mustard fondue sauce." The soup has a lot of onions and with a great full flavor. The chicken was very tender and enjoyable.
I also had the soup then the "Tandoori Chicken in Curry Masala Sauce, Served with Basmati Rice, Vegetables, Maharazi and Gazpacho Shooter." I'm not a fan of cold soups, but for Gazpacho, it was as good as any I've had. I was expecting more of a traditional Tandoori flavor, but this was still excellent. They grill it on flat skewers, with the chicken alternating with onion slices and red pepper. The rice had a nice flavor, complimenting the chicken very well. I'd love the recipe. The basamati flavor was there, as one would expect.
One impressive thing Bernard's does well is the plating. The prices are very reasonable, and the beautiful plating is typical of what one would only expect to see in a more expensive restaurant. Good job.
All in all, we love the food, the service and prices. Oh, since it was "Titanic" Thursday, they has the movie Titanic playing on a large screen TV. They also had an excellent jazz guitarist playing. He alone I'd so see just for his music set.
