  • BOTTOM LINE: A poorly designed and (still very) smelly music space. Although rich in history and a staple of the Toronto music scene, I always dread going to Lee's. But first, the good. I actually really enjoy the main stage on the first floor with elevated benches on the side (get there early to nab these!) and tiered platforms so you'll probably be able to find an unobstructed view of the stage. The drinks are also reasonably priced. There's also the dance cave on the second floor. The (newly) commissioned mural on the facade is also iconic. There is something to be said, however, about milking nostalgia just a bit too much. One of the things that really turns me off is that in the 10 years I've been attending, they still take the prize for one of the smelliest washrooms in town only worsened by the fact the the doors are always propped open. Also, the race to and from the coat check is never fun but at Lee's it involves snaking up 3 FLOORS of narrow, sticky stairs to the attic... BRUTES! Perhaps I'm being too critical but I feel that these are actually things that can be addressed, but just haven't. At the end of the day, you probably won't be able to avoid Lee's, but try to dress light and don't forget to bring your iron bladder.
