  • My family and I stayed at Zazu for three months from October 2010 to January 2011, staying in one of the corporate rental, "furnished and equipped" units. At first, there was a misunderstanding over the semantical meaning of the words "laundry service". To my Dad and Mom (and most people) this meant laundry service with your laundry being washed, dried and folded, the definition held out at most hospitality businesses. To Zazu, however, it meant a coin (or card) operated, self service laundry. This was pertinent since the rentals at Zazu apparently do not have in-unit washers and dryers and my Mom and Dad would have stayed elsewhere as a result. Amends were made for this however, not to mention semantical corrections to web sites and other promotional literature to prevent future misunderstandings. We enjoyed our stay at Zazu, but our biggest gripe was that there were no rugs on the tile floor whatsoever, which, coupled with the coarse sand everywhere outside, made for some constantly dirty floors as there were not even any entry mats or rugs at the doors to keep from tracking inside. As a result, we had to go and buy some rugs even though they are provided in most "furnished and equipped" rentals that we have stayed at all over the country. This place is extremely dog friendly, though you will pay "dog rent" and extra deposits for the privilege. So dog friendly that, with all the big dogs that live here, the washer and dryers were constantly jammed with lots and lots of long hair from some mighty big furry dogs (judging from the volume)! During our stay, we were constantly over billed due to accounting errors; and our bill was not straightened out entirely nor refunds for those errors made until just a few weeks before we left. Zazu has an excellent high definition cable TV/Internet/Phone service system; but the premium channels were constantly freezing (from channel conversion) while we stayed there. Just a few days before we left, however, the system was revamped in a manner that most likely resolved the issues. (Most of this problem was centered on Cox Cable, not Zazu.) Zazu had struggled with an unresponsive Cox in Phoenix for several months over the problem without any results; but a phone call made by my Dad to some of his former media executive colleagues at Cox headquarters in Georgia apparently helped speed the resolution along somewhat! Would we stay here again! Maybe, but having to take all of your laundry all the way to laundromat a big hassle that is usually not confronted by busy people living in corporate rentals that do not have in-unit washer/dryers. This is a very special place that has a lot of potential--with just a little more attention to detail, it could be top rate! Note that this review is about one of the furnished rental units. If you are looking for an unfurnished rental, I would highly recommend Zazu with at least four paws up which is my highest rating!
