  • I had the misfortune to have to take my grandson to be seen after hours when his regular, and loved pediatrician was unavailable. We were directed to Dr. Werther and were promptly escorted to an exam room. A good while later we were still there and the room had become stifling hot. I opened the door and stood in the door way as my grandson and his mother walked out in the hall. A man came out of the adjacent room and realizing it was the doctor we all got back in the room with my grandson sinking to sit on the floor. The doctor said to me " I will be closing this door" I said " Okay, it had become very hot in here so we opened it". He said "Sorrreee" emphasis on the sarcasm. I let that slide. Then he said unpleasantly "Can you get him up so I can have my chair?"...which his mother picked up my grandson... and I said "oh your chair is over there" and pointed behind the doctor to the doctor's chair which I had placed cushion side down on exam table to prevent grandson from being hurt climbing on it. When I said "there is your chair' the doctor said "I know" as if he hadn't just made a stink about the step stool my grandson was sitting in front of. Okay. Still willing to let it slide for the greater purpose of having grandson cared for. So he then asked the mother "what brings you here today?"... Mother states list of symptoms.. runny nose, sore throat, not eating, not sleeping, pulling on left ear non stop, headache and fever. Doctor asked "what was his temp?"...and I say I don't know that he has been medicated recently and is still running a fever at this time. He asked the mother what his temp was this morning and she says I don't know, I didn't take it, he felt hot to the touch. The doctor then says, aggressively, why didn't you take it? Don't you own a thermometer???? I was horrified at what he was implying. The mother didn't dignify that with an answer. So the doctor came back with "It seems to me that a MOTHER would take the temp" When he saw by my face that he had just way overstepped he tacked on how a degree or two means the difference between bacterial and viral (although he used a lot more words to get it said). The he continued with telling us that my grandson isn't nearly miserable enough to warrant it being an ear infection and he doesn't know about me but when he had infections as a boy he was SCREAMING. I stated that the way my grandson was acting was typical for him ( and incidentally myself and his father) having an ear infection right down to the one eye running, laying his head down on surfaces, etc, he literally scoffed at me and stated "I guarantee you he doesn't have an ear infection. No way. He doesn't have an infection". I was really blown away by this as he hadn't even looked at my grandson except across the room. My face said this so he barked out "Let's take a look" Bark "lay him on the table" Bark "Hold his arms out of my way" BARK "Hold them down at his waist." in the nastiest way possible. Mother complied with this and he proceeded to look in my grandson's ear. I am sitting in the chair behind them and the doctor turns to me and says aggressively to me"Grandma take a look" I considered reacting to the "gotcha" tone but decided to go ahead and take a look. What I saw was a dark red eardrum. So I said "I see a very red eardrum" and he literally told me "NO. It's not and it's moving. Maybe you can't see it." Then he turned my screaming grandson's head and did the same routine on other ear, down to aggressively inviting me to "see" Same thing. When I said so he was visibly angry and said to me " You seem very invested in this being an ear infection". I was literally blown away because the truth is, HE seemed VERY invested in it NOT being an ear infection. So much so that he made up his mind before ever looking in the child's ears !! That was the last straw for me. My grandson's mother picked him up and I stood up face to face with the dr. and I told him.."See the thing is you came in this room on the fight and you have not backed down from that position, not for one second, and now you have offended everyone here and this is where we are" .My daughter in law then said to him...you don't get to tell me I'm not a good mother. At this point the doctor tossed an insincere sorry and said "can I see him" And I told him No. We are done. We will take him to be seen elsewhere. DIL and grandson left room with me trailing behind. I saw nurse sitting at work station and stopped to ask for manager name and number Werther exited the room, saw us and walked up, turned his shoulder and LITERALLY inserted himself between myself and the nurse and doing so drug himself across my breasts. Now I was well and truly stunned and said "You touched me!" He said "sorry, I thought you were going to lean back" That was his excuse!! He thought I was going to yield to his physical bullying! I have contacted his manager, sent them a version of this letter and Intend to file a formal complaint.
