On February 28, 2014 (with a snowstorm pending at the time) I visited Ace Hardware in Wexford with the intent of purchasing potassium chloride for my driveway. I intended to use a coupon issued by Ace for 50% off any one regular priced item under $30. Upon arriving at the register with potassium chloride in hand I was informed that "rock salt", shovels and other such items were excluded from the promotion associated with my coupon. I was also told by the cashier that the computers wouldn't allow the use of the coupon for those products, and that I was welcome to shop for other products, not excluded. Admittedly, the coupon did say "Additional exclusions may apply". I do find it questionable why "rock salt" shovels and similar items were excluded in the month of February. One can only assume they just want to get you in the door. I posted my complaint about the exclusion on Ace's Facebook page the next day. One day later I looked at the Facebook page, and my post had been removed. Needless to say, I won't go back.
