  • Forewarning before you buy a pet here, the puppies are all sick. If one is sick, they're all sick. Low stars aren't for staff. It seems all of the puppies are purebred and (able to be!) AKC registered for an additional cost after purchase($260ish). Kind of blown away to find out after a couple thousand for the puppy. I don't normally support pet shops, but fell in love with a puppy. Other Petlands didn't provide blankets & all their puppies looked very sad, sick, & dirty all the time. The puppies here were more lively, seemed to be being cleaned up after ASAP, & only a few looked actually dirty or sad. Maybe one looked like it COULD be sick. But if one is sick they're all sick. I thought with her being in a cage with other non-ill looking puppies she'd be fine. She looked healthy. Price includes mandatory new puppy kit that comes with a hard teether, a rope toy, puppy vitamins, puppy food supplement if your puppy "gets sick and/or won't eat", stuff that is basically Bitter Yuk, pheromone spray, a toothbrush, treats, & a puppy comfort plush with a heartbeat-cool, normally $40 on their own but wouldn't have purchased this unless my puppy needed it. Decent idea, but some people already have some of those things & don't need them. It'd be nice to include the basics instead, or give customers a price limit for the kit & let them pick stuff from the store themselves. Should have rather included food, two small bowls, a softer puppy teether or puppy nylabone, a small plushie toy over dangerous rope toy, & idk maybe a basic puppy training book or something. I like the training treats, toothbrush, & vitamins. The food supplement was a good idea but after my puppy inevitably got sick, would just throw it up anyway. The credit line's a bit scammy. End up paying double + for puppy if you don't pay off the loan right away.We either weren't told that part or missed it somewhere. The worst part are the sick puppies. I get that the puppies are purebred, lots flown from other states, given vaxes (doesn't mean they're ok btw, just decreases likelihood of illness but both my dog and the puppy were vaxed and still got sick), fed, etc. but the price is too high for a puppy to come home & fall nearly deathly ill. Breeders will normally charge $500-1000 for a purebred. Got puppy home,a few days later began wheezing, runny nose, breathing heavily, coughing, sneezing, & vomitting. Then stopped eating & having any interest in food, wouldn't get out of bed. Took her to the ER, spent $300, took her back to petland. If the puppy comes down sick within a certain timeframe & contracted an illness from petland, they will have their vets treat it for free. That's very nice & ended up sparing us a ton more $ & saving the puppy's life, but should've never happened in the first place. Stupid mistake:We introduced the puppy immediately to our 2 y/o dog. Though even if we kept her quarantined, kennel cough's still contagious after 2-3mos. so she would've likely still caught it somehow. She caught it, then a severe case of pneumonia. She cost us over $5000 in ER& treatment. Was afraid she might die. I asked about the health of the puppies, concerns over my dog at home,& was assured that they were healthy. They've all been exposed,so all are likely sick. My dog hadn't eaten or drank in 2 weeks and I haven't even been able to enjoy my new puppy due to this. Petland makes so much $ they should be able to separate the puppies into their own kennel. It's negligent not to.Puppies are so close together they eat each other's poop which can cause parvo(even vaxed). They need to be being potty trained. Stock less dogs. Properly care for them. Please invest in separate cages for your dogs, have employees properly wash their hands after touching any dog, make a handwash station for customers for after they've played with a dog.Have them wash after and before contact with another dog, wash your visiting stations before and after every puppy visit, have your puppies separated during transport so they can't even cough on each other, don't let puppies share a water bottle, bowl, or toys, and don't buy any puppies from puppy mills. I am pretty certain our puppy is from a breeder, not a mill, but I don't doubt that since someone brought kennel cough in, one of these dogs was probably a mill dog or around one. Reputable breeders are responsible and wouldn't sell a sick puppy. The poor puppies and their new families don't deserve this. It seems Petland' s puppies go from about $1,000-6,000. At those prices, make sure your puppies are healthy, please. Additionally it seems the health checkup is done when puppies are brought in, it's not a routine check in or anything, so the puppies can and do get sick while at the store.
