If you are seriously looking for a premier Aikido dojo in the East Valley, your search may very well end here! From the moment that you walk through the door and enter Sensei Tom's dojo you can sense the strong energy, enthusiasm, and excitement that Sensei Tom and his students bring forward. I have been attending classes here for about 2 months after having experimented with different types of martial arts and can positively say that I have found my dojo "home". Each week I look forward to the training on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as a means for me to meld my mind and body into one complete and coordinated package, and to regain an overall sense of well-being that I have found to be lacking over the last several years.
Sensei Tom goes well beyond merely showing his students martial art techniques by incorporating a strong degree of respect for one another, self-discipline/awareness, patience and humbleness that is solidly lacking in modern day society. Personal egos and pride are left outside of the dojo, of which invites and encourages everyone to relax and enjoy the Aikido experience even more. Class sizes are very small, of which also lends to increased one-on--one attention which is greatly to the student's advantage. Training is genuine and realistic for a myriad of physical and psychological real-world situations that a student may find themselves drawn into, with an emphasis of de-escalation through minimal yet decisive use of force as required.
This dojo is founded on the idea of constant learning and sharing, where even the most junior student is respected, appreciated, and encouraged to do the best that they can without fear of being degraded or ridiculed. I highly recommend that you take a few minutes out of your day and give Sensei Tom a call to discuss his work, and to set aside an evening to visit his dojo to witness his style of training with his students. There is nothing to lose, and yet so much to gain....I am positive that you will not be disappointed!
