  • Our central air broke down during the recent heat wave, and after one week I was desperate for a good night's sleep in AC (our repair was still a few days away). I looked at the local hotels, and decided to try the recently remodeled Tudor Arms. We got a king bed room for $109.00, and even with the added $16.00 valet parking charge, it was a better deal than the other local hotels of similar level of service. Check in was easy and they give you warm cookies - nice touch! our room was on the 11th floor facing west, with a great view of downtown Cleveland. The room: Modern feel to it, clean lines and the desk is made from some kind of stone surface. Hardwood floor - VERY nice, makes it feel very clean. I NEVER walk barefoot on hotel carpeting (BLECH), but in this room I felt comfortable kicking off my slippers. The bathroom: Small, but nicely appointed. Marble surfaces, very clean. Only thing missing was a fan to keep the steam from building up after a shower. The bed: OMG!!! This was the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever experienced! The pillows are on the soft side, which I usually don't care for, but for some reason they were great for me. The air conditioning: (cue the sound of angels singing...) PERFECT!!! the air conditioning unit is mounted on the wall near the ceiling, so the air currents are forced down into the room. The control panel was easy to work. ALL the above equals the best sleep I had in a week! Another good thing about this hotel is that it was solidly built all those many years ago, so we did not hear any noise from adjoining rooms, or from the hallway. We did not have breakfast there (went to Luna Cafe at Cedar Fairmount which I will review later), but we peeked into the breakfast room on the 2nd floor and it looked and smelled very good. One other thing, the free wifi in the room was very easy to access. The only downside for guests without cars that I can see is that the hotel is not near other shops, restaurants, drugstores, but I saw a shuttle schedule for guests that takes them to downtown and other nearby attractions. For guests with cars, the valet rate allows for unlimited entry/exit during the day.
