I'm honestly shocked about what happened to me at Peopl. Upon arriving outside the club, the bouncer told me that I could come in because I was a girl, but none of the guys I was with were able to come in. Standing with his arms crossed he shook his head and kept saying over and over again "you're not coming in" to my friends. Finally after he thought he'd said it enough, my friend was able to ask why they weren't allowed in. For some reason this seemed to infuriate the bouncer (who claimed to actually own the club) and started threatening to beat them all up. At this point we realized it wasn't worth reasoning with the guy and started walking away, even though we'd come down to this club because it was my friend's birthday and he wanted to check it out.
Now, even though the bouncer (owner?) WANTED us to leave, our actual leaving seemed to make him even more mad. He ran after my friends with his bouncer friend (the scariest looking man I've ever seen in my life) and started yelling at them. They both seemed to be on the verge of a mental breakdown. He pushed them against a building and actually punched one of my friends in the face. It's time I should mention my friends and I are all 18 and very non threatening looking people. The bouncer/owner started ranting about how he made more money than our fathers (not sure where he was going with that one and undoubtedly untrue) and that if he beat any of them up he wouldn't get in trouble with the police because he's friends with all of them (highly debatable).
Anyways, if you're looking for a fun night out in Old Montreal I hope you'll go somewhere else, I definitely will be.
