Was here Friday July 3rd with my sister and a good friend visiting from out of town. We danced until closing and had the best time. I love that they play latin and salsa music as well as some top 40, they really appeal to a variety of people. Not only is there variety in the music but El Convento is super gay friendly and even has a drag show which is super fun and really gets the crowd going.
I met straight guys and gay guys and had the best time.
It was fun to groove to the music in my own way and see the couples dancing who actually knew how to dance to the salsa music they played.
The bartender did give my sister a bit of attitude after she expressed her disappointment that she kept serving people who'd come after us but we were eventually served and went on with our night. She scolded my sister saying "do you see how busy I am"! Busy or not as a bartender you should be used to multitasking and having a slight grasp on who's been waiting 10 minutes and who has just arrived at the bar.
Overall a great time and excellent alternative to bro-y bars that serve up only top 40 and rap.
