| - After moving here 3 yrs ago from Chicago and going to Mario Tricoci Salon for more than 10 yrs (if you know who they are, they were nationally televised for years on talk shows as the go-to Chicago make-over salon), I knew it would be difficult to find any salon that matched them. I've been to a couple of salons that were pretty good, but I saw the ravings about Dolce and had to try them out when I saw their first Groupon. I have to say, the stylist I found, who at the time was a level 2 and is now a level 3, is amazing and cut my hair how I like it and colors it better than I've had in years. The last time I went to see her, she was not really there and seemed totally unapproachable... talking about things we had talked about last time I saw her (less than a week since I had more than one Groupon and it's only 1 service per Groupon... Hey... I'm poor, but appreciate quality work), etc, so it was a little disheartening considering my former colorist and I have an amazing friendship that we still carry on. I learned all stylists that come to them regardless of experience start at a Level 1 and learn the "Dolce Way", then work their way up. While every hair service I've had done their has been very good (except for the feather extensions.... I had to get those redone every time and I think $40 is way too much to pay for the tiny slim feathers you get when you can order the whole kit to do it yourself online for less than that and buy a big feather for the entire amount!).
When I got a gel manicure there, I was hugely disappointed. I was in my brother's wedding in May, got my nails done the day before I left and by the day of the wedding, I already had one nail that had peeled off!!! These were gels!!! I had to fill it in with white-out for the wedding (french manicure obviously), and got it redone when I got home a few days later, which they did without charge, but that only lasted a week more. This has nothing to do with the nail tech, as I really liked her and we shared a similar work past. Since then, I have gotten my nails done at Asian salons for 60% of what Dolce charges and the last longer and are more professionally done. I will not go to Dolce for anything other than hair services for the next set of Groupons I have.
And that's the other problem I have with them, they do treat me differently as a Groupon buyer which I think is BS!!! As someone who has worked in the service industry and worked for tips before.... just because someone uses a coupon for a service does not mean they won't tip you! I tend to make up what you wouldn't make in the service in tip money. Don't treat me like a second class citizen because then you won't get that extra money that you get to pocket that I saved on the service! If you're going to offer Groupons, Dolce, then instruct your employees to treat us the same as full paying customers.
