| - Do your research online to ensure that the SSA office you are going to can perform the task you want. There were offices closer to my home, but either they didn't provide the service or their hours are limited. With regard to the office on 7th Ave -- parking -- as you head north on 7th Ave be prepared to turn left just after Washington Street, but before Van Buren. I'm here on a Wednesday afternoon and the lot is empty... there is free parking to the west of the SSA building....I pulled right in. To get a social security card, the entrance is on the west side of the building as well.
Not kidding when I say it literally took me less than 10 minutes to get a replacement SSN ID card (ordered...they don't hand them to you here.). I brought the appropriate documentation, took the elevator to the second floor, was told to turn off my cell phone ringer by the security guard, he checked my purse and I was directed to the self check-in kiosk. After a very brief checkin there, I took my number printout and sat down. My number was called within probably two minutes. Handed the lady the ticket, she verified my ID and asked a few personal questions to ensure I knew the answers (of course, under threat of prison time for perjury etc), I verified the printout of the information she typed in her computer and I was done. Viola! It may very well be a world record. Anyway, it's important to write good reviews when people are doing a good job and this is the best experience I've ever had with the Social Security Administration. It was quick and the lady who assisted me was pleasant and proficient. Yay and thank you SSA 'cause I drove close to 60 miles to get here. Thanks for not wasting my time!
