  • I had to use Ideal because it is the contractor my home warranty uses. They came to look at a power issue where I was getting voltage leaks through my cable modem and hot tub. I was told by techs from both Cox and a spa repair guy that it was a grounding issue so I had them come out and verify the lines, determine actual cause, and repair. I also tell them that I get power bumps when the AC kicks on that I'm not sure if it is related. They troubleshoot and determined a new grounding rod should be sunk to repair it. They tell me it isn't covered by warranty and charge me over $700 to repair it. No ground is a potential danger so I said go. They installed it and things seemed to be ok for a time - still get the power bumps for AC. I later fought with my warranty people on coverage as it should have been covered. A month later, a short in my electrical that knocks most of my box out. I call them in again. This time they can't respond for 2 days. That is 2 days of no AC in 100 degree weather, no refrigeration and small pets and children in the house, unreliable power that already blew every power strip in the house. I have to fight with them and my warranty to get someone out immediately. I'm still told 2 days after everything. I called another company in that came out same day (30 minutes after I called actually). This is when the real issue was exposed. Ideal misdiagnosed the original issue. There was a short in the lines that run to my spa that they missed. My AC breaker was starting to toast (and damage the blades it sits on) that they missed but they missed the voltage fluxes that was from a poorly connected neutral line (which was why the AC breaker was starting to die). The second group I had called in found all of that and repaired it for a fraction of what Ideal would have charged. Emergency response, system diagnosis, replaced AC breaker, disconnect my spa lines, 3 sites visits (NV Energy had to come out to unlock their side of the box), reconnect my neutral line all cost me under $400 compared to over $700 for a grounding rod that didn't fix the actual issue and wasn't covered under my warranty because it is considered adding something to the system. I can't blame Ideal for my home warranty issues (American Home Shield if anyone cares which I'm cancelling). I can blame them for misdiagnosing my system in the first place which resulted in more out of pocket expenses, emergency power situations, and aggravation.
