  • Avoid this place. I'll start by saying I travel for work. I usually look for holiday inn expresses because they're generally decent places to stay. Not this one. One of the worst hotel experiences I've had. Overpriced, slow staff, dirty rooms, and unacceptable rudeness from guest services. My experience warrants I share the details. Avoid this place. Details: Check in took way too long, upwards of twenty five minutes. Long line, slow service. There was also this man, whose status as a guest was questionable, talking to people and asking them all sorts of questions. I'm not one to judge, but he clearly had come in off the street. I'm also about being kind to people, but you can't have strangers come into your lobby area and start bothering guests asking them all sorts of personal questions. He was most definitely hyped up on something. There's a twist though. This guy was apparently using a safety deposit box down in the lobby to hold an abundance of cash, which he was openly going through while I was checking in. Through the usual chit-chat with the hotel lady, he was asking me personal questions, getting in my business. The whole situation was very off putting between me, the hotel rep, and this gentleman. I should've walked away then but I chalked it up to being in an urban area. I finally got up to my room and it was nasty. I probably should've slept in the bathtub. Hair everywhere. Bits of food on the carpet. Bathroom had a slight odor to it and questionable cleanliness, but did appear to have been serviced. Sheets were clean as far as I know, but the top sheet had small, light stains on it. I don't care if it's bleached and cleaned or what. You can't continue using sheets whose cleanliness is dubious and visibly gross. I slept on the "clean" side of the bed. I didn't look at the other furniture because my whole goal for the place was to sleep and leave. The maids were still performing room service at 730pm, which didn't really mean anything at the time. They were also not in any sort of uniform (jeans and tshirt) and slightly sketchy, and were being watched from a distance by what I guess was the housekeeping manager. Made me wonder whether they were just bringing in folks right off the street to clean the rooms. So something came up and I had to check out the next day, at about 3pm, instead of staying my full two nights. I've had to do this before and never had an issue with extra charges. Anyways, it took me over 30 minutes to get out of there. The hyped up guy was down in the lobby, big surprise, talking people's ears off. That was until one of the ladies behind the counter signaled to him that another hotel rep was ready to meet with him. Didn't know what to make of all that. Didn't really care either, as long as he wasn't talking to me. MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE REVIEW: Trying to checkout, there were two ladies behind the counter, and only one was checking people in and out, albeit slowly. The other was counting cash, completely ignoring the growing number of patrons slowly building up in the lobby. Like deliberately not acknowledging all the people in the lobby. When asked by the lady in front of me if she could somehow check people in, she replied "I can't, I'm off the clock. I have to be somewhere I'm already late for. I can't help you." I kid you not that's what was said. This is appallingly unacceptable in hospitality. Where was the manager in all this? Was she the manager? I didn't have time to find out because I had to LEAVE. Not that I could distract her from her cash counting anyway. Luckily the couple in front of me were polite enough to let me skip in line to check out. The lady working the computer didn't know how to do an early checkout (??) so she got the cash-counting lady to help her. The cash-counting lady, who already refused to help a customer, then had the gall to look me straight in the face and tell me "there's a $70 'late checkout cleaning fee', but I can knock it down to $50, and that's the best I can do." I was dumb founded but I had to leave so I didn't have time to fight it. Nevermind that last night I had witnessed the maids servicing rooms late into the evening. I left that place as fast as I could seething in anger. Avoid this place, they need to fix their staff.
