  • My usual GoodLife on McCaul got flooded so I was forced to walk more than 4 minutes from my home to get a workout and decided to give Union Station a go. I'd like to point out that I had nothing whatsoever to do with the McCaul flood-despite telling anyone that would listen that the place was filthy and needed a good clean. Union Station was formerly a platinum (fancy, more expensive) club in the chain but they abolished that whole concept so now it's accessible to the normal scum of the earth GoodLife member like me. It's a pretty large club with the extras like a chiropractor etc. There is a nice selection of cardio machines-a mixture of Precor, Life Fitness and Cybex arc trainers mainly with a few stepmills. You might find your cardio a bit more boring than it has to be though. In usual cheap and backwards GL fashion, there are no individual TVs-just a few on the wall in front. They're set to sports, news, soaps/talk and the pointless GoodLife propaganda channel. The weights section is large and pretty well stocked. I wish they had more free spots to do a workout though. It's a bit cramped and crowded with machines. The only decent patch of free floor space is in the personal training section which is behind barriers to keep the riff raff out. The barriers also prevent you from getting at kettlebells and the TRX frame. Not that the space is enough for the trainers. They're everywhere! They seem to be a mixed bunch. Some are Crossfitters and you'll see kipping pushups mixed with power cleans when they're with their clients. Others try to incorporate kettlebells and some seem to try a more individualised approach. One likes to sit down on the equipment-the steps, benches, massage chairs. He must be very tired. None are as friendly as the McCaul crowd. Changing rooms are clean! It's such a novelty. Plenty of lockers too. I like it that they make some attempt to raise themselves above the No Frills of gyms by providing some hair styling products and cotton buds in the changing rooms. That's super fancy for GoodLife. This location also has a good range of classes and the studio is big and bright. I may even be tempted to take one here! All in all; I quite like it!
