| - If it weren't for Circus Circus, Imperial Palace, and Excalibur taking up the top 3 spots of the Vegas-Championship-of Really-Sh#%y-Hotels, this would be a right there.
-- Does the hotel's lobby & exterior look that bad? No.
-- Are the restaurants & clubs all that bad? Nah.
-- Are the rooms in that bad a state of disrepair? Not really.
-- Is the casino all that bad? Well, yeah. It is.
Let's start with the gaming. This is an absolute idiot's casino.
1) CASINO
Being the cheapest of the 90's generation resorts, I think TI management believes that the people that come through there are easy marks - and they're probably right.
...The casino is loaded with 6-5 single deck Blackjack (the worst blackjack game in Vegas) and what little isn't, is a lousy 3-2 6-deck CSM DD on 10/11 only, no DD after splits, split aces once. And most of it is entry level $5-$15 play, meaning it's amateur hour. And you know that you're not going to get any decent comps unless you're a solid black chipper because TI is part of the MGM Mirage comp system.
2) PEOPLE
Then there's the clientele. Boy - where did they get these methheads & geriatric refugees from? If they're not 80 years old, they're rejects from the Rocky Horror Picture show. Loud, intoxicated, rude, and very slow... not surprisingly, they're all at the 6-5 single deck blackjack pit watching the casino bleed their chips away like a vampire. "What if I don't want that card? Can I just bet a $1?" "Where's that there beer lady at?" "What? Speak up, sonny!" This is funny enough to watch for a few minutes.
3) SERVICE
And then there's the service. Someone mentioned this before and I was surprised no one else encountered this: Housekeeping starts knocking on doors before 8:30AM in the morning! W.... T..... F.....? And it seems the maids don't understand the words "Privacy Please".
...We actually made our own sign out of the memo paper in the desk that read, "No entrada, por favor." It'd be a funny story if it weren't for the fact that the sign WORKED for the rest of our stay.

If you don't believe me that it's a pit, take it from TI's creator:
-- The Wynn's consider this hotel their only mistake. Elaine Wynn was quoted as saying about the exterior, "Isn't it awful?" Steve Wynn is quoted as regretting having built it during the "family-friendly" Vegas trend of the 90's. (Read the book "Winner Takes All")
-- The fact that Phil Ruffin, former owner of the dreaded New Frontier, picked it up should tell you something. The Frontier was a rundown, unmaintained, souless hotel & casino. It also has the distinction of being the last casino that I caught using a card mechanic as a dealer at the blackjack table.
CONCLUSION
It's dark, dingy, and has a lousy casino. They need to nuke this hotel right after they demo Circus Circus, Excalibur, and Imperial Palace. Being forced to stay there is a crime against humanity but I'll give it +1 for Social House which is a meager strip-based alternative to Nobu, Yellowtail, or Ichiya.
