| - This is really such a shame, since this place came so close to a 5 star curry perfection, marred from numerous small missteps, missing lunch menu items, and minor details.
First of all, the chicken katsu is the dish to get, hands down. I tried both pork and chicken, and the chicken was breaded and fried to such a perfection that I almost had misty eyes. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and fried with such an amazing crispy layer without requiring extra calories just to bite through the protein. The pork, unfortunately, did not get the memo, as the meat was much tougher and less flavored than its other white meat cousin. Since this was my first and possibly the last visit, I had tried a series of appetizers. However, the takoyaki was gone and we showed up literally 15 minutes after the store opened. The fried oyster exceeded my expectation as it was juicy and marinating in its own sauces when I bit through the crispy exterior. The tofu salad was good (although I've never been a fan of iceberg lettuce) and we also tried the edamame (overly salted and many were shriveled), the chicken skewers (protein on a stick, forgettable). As for the main course, my friend and I got he brown rice with curry and the respective meats. I tried a spicy level 8 and it was sizzling, but not cathostrophic. The curry, in my opinion was just a little bit too salty for my taste, but made more bearable when eaten with the curry. Oh yeah, we also ordered the peach jelly champagne, which was an interesting experience, but not sure if it was worth $7.5.
Overall, this is definitely a popular spot amongst the locals, as the place filled up pretty quickly by 12:30pm, so I recommend coming early and preparing your dining experiences.
