Beware! I purchased my 2005 outback (177K miles) here because they offered free oil changes as part of the deal. so I only go for the oil change. whenever they say I need some other service, I check it out elsewhere not only for price, but also to see if the suggested service is even required. case in point: I went in for my usual oil change last week and was told a cylinder head was leaking oil and needed to be replaced. $1530 + tax. I thought this was odd since unbeknownst to them, I had a whole new engine installed by someone else at 150K miles. it turns out the leaking oil was from a positive crank case ventilator valve (pcv valve) which is easily spotted by ANY mechanic, much less a factory trained Subaru mechanic. It was fixed in 6 minutes for $115 by my meinecke guy, Dave. (see separate yelp review on Dave). This tells me the Subaru mechanic just looked at the mileage and thought he could make a good commission on dumb old me. OR Subaru was trying to con me into buying a whole new car due cost to repair it. whoops! the other 2 services this upstanding subaru guy recommended were replacing lower ball joints and sway bar links. not needed. (again, god bless meineke's dave!) the total cost of repair quoted by the dealership was $2,395.08. Actual cost of repair $115. I only regret I didn't print out a meineke coupon before I saw dave. I could have saved another $10, but I was already over the moon about not getting conned.
