  • I'll add my 2 cents to the fray, since I've lived in the vicinity for 10+ years and I often go here out of convenience. Yes, the crowding both in the aisles and at checkout is a definite problem, constantly. Yes, the customer service (or lack thereof) is obvious, especially with the stupid policy of needing to know how many bags you want up front. But what really grates my nerves about Metro in general, is how little the chain itself seems to care about the freshness of their produce. When this was Dominions, they used to have the slogan, "We're Fresh Obsessed!". And they were not, in fact. Rusted romaine lettuces, moldy tomatoes and strawberries and bruised, mealy apples were not exceptions, but the norm. Now mind you, since changing brands and becoming Metro, they no longer claim to be fresh-obsessed, so perhaps they don't expect it from themselves either..? I'd rather spend a little more and go to Loblaws on my way home from work (there's one at North York Centre subway which is just as convenient as this grocery location) or head to the Sobeys at Mt. Pleasant and Eglinton. For really fresh produce at great prices, there are amazing little Mom and Pop grocers along Yonge, both north and south of Eglinton, where everything is fresh and very reasonably priced. Ideally, I'd love to see a good No Frills closer to Yonge/Eg. There's one at Vic Park and Eg, but it's quite a trek and a schlep when you're taking TTC.
