Never have I felt more unwelcome and ignored when traveling with my husband in a wheelchair. Even though I contacted their "medical desk" and also told the person checking me in that I needed help on the ramp, not only was no help offered but I was given an incredulous "no, we don't have anyone to help you" when I was at the gate. No extra time to board. As I was trying to get the arm rest of his seat to lift up so he could sit down (turned out it was broken!) my husband lost his balance and another passenger held him upright. Meanwhile I was supposed to be folding up the wheelchair for gate checking, but no way to get back off the plane as everyone was boarding. Another passenger (an angel) insisted on helping us off the airplane and pushed the chair to the elevator. We fly Southwest all the time and have never had a problem with flight attendants or other employees ignoring us and making us feel that we are on our own with no help. No wonder we didn't see any other people in Montreal in wheelchairs or even with walkers or canes. There is not the level of concern for the disabled in Canada as there is in the U.S. As a former Canadian I find this very disappointing.
