  • I was just here today for an afternoon performance of the Phantom of the Opera, which was a beautiful performance and the music and effects really keep you engaged the whole time. I don't want to spoil it but for someone who doesn't watch musicals regularly, this is a must-see, which is why I'm giving 4 stars. I have also been to this theatre twice in the past to watch The Lion King and all of my experiences here have been pretty consistent. In terms of the physical appearance of the venue, I would actually give it 3 stars. I personally think the place could use some minor upgrades and renovations to match up to the prices people pay for tickets here. There is only one way to enter and exit the building, which causes major traffic congestion in the corridor when you have everyone at once trying to enter and exit the building. An elevator for this place would be nice especially for customers like us who paid for seats at the very top balcony area. We had to climb several flights of stairs but luckily, it wasn't very exhausting because the stairs were built with a lot of landings in between. The ladies' washroom was clean and decent and I love the hands-free sink but the number of stalls available were pretty limited. On the positive side, when you enter the actual auditorium, the set-up is really nice and you feel like you have taken a time warp to Europe. Whether you have orchestra or balcony seats, regardless of where you sit, you'll always have a good view of the stage. The acoustics are perfect, especially for a musical like Phantom of the Opera, so the sound effects for this production were high quality and could be clearly heard even if the performers were not miked. Also, customer service was friendly. The guy who helped us locate our seating area had an awesome sense of humor. They also provide popcorn, drinks, and sweets, just like a movie theatre, which you can purchase before the show or during intermission. I wasn't very hungry this time around but maybe next time I'll give their concession stand a chance. In conclusion, although the physical appearance of this venue needs work, the amazing epic shows and the friendly customer service is what will continue to bring me back to Princess of Wales Theatre.
